10 Questions with Ms.Vallone

1. Where did you go to college?

I received my Bachelors degree at Bridgewater State University in Physical Education. I continued on and received my Masters in Project Adventure from Plymouth State University.

2. Why did you become a physical educator?

Growing up I always loved sports and being active. As I grew older and started to help out with the youth sports teams at my school, I found that I really enjoyed working with children and helping them grow and learn new skills. Allowing me to combine both my love of movement and an enthusiasm for working with youth, becoming a physical education teacher was the perfect fit.

3. What sports did you play growing up?

Growing up in a sports family, I spent a lot of time on fields and courts both playing and cheering for my older sisters. I participated in many sports growing up, swimming, track and field, basketball but soccer has always my favorite.

4. What do you do to stay physically active?

Whether it is walking my dog, hiking with my family or visiting the YMCA, I am often on the move. I also play both soccer and basketball and I love to ski and ice skate in the winter.

5. How many years have you been teaching?

This is my 12th year of teaching, all of which have been at Berkley Community School.

6. What is your favorite unit to teach?

While I enjoy teaching every unit for different reasons, Dance is probably my most favorite. Dance is a great form of exercise and I find that it is both fun to do and to watch. I enjoy allowing students the opportunity to learn how to move their bodies in new and different ways and create impressive final dances. Show day is the best day! and I get to experience it over and over again with each class.

7. What are your hobbies outside of school?

I love to read and to bake!

8. Where do you like to vacation?

Whether it’s taking on a new country with friends or visiting family and walking their city to find the best ice cream place I just like to have adventures. Exploring, learning, eating and making memories with the people you love is the recipe for a great trip.

9. What is your favorite sports team?

While I would much rather play sports than watch them on TV, if you catch me watching a game it is usually the Buffalo Bills or US National soccer teams.

10. What was your favorite book to read growing up?

I have always loved to read. My favorite books to read growing up were those of the Nancy Drew series. I read over 50 of them when I was in 4th grade!
